Pack 14 Music & rhythm

Music & rhythm takes regex to written music: note names, octaves, time signatures, chords and guitar tabs. Notes run from A to G with an optional sharp or flat, which makes a neat first exercise in classes and optional parts.

The first board catches note names like C, F# and Bb but spares H. Then you add octaves, as in G#5, time signatures like 6/8, chords like Am and G7, and a guitar tab line like e|--0--3--|, where the bar characters have to be escaped because | means “or” in a regex.

Every level also has hidden checks: words you don’t see. Passing the words on screen solves a level; passing the hidden checks too ranks it.
